The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) says the Achimota-Ofankor underpass remains safe for road users, despite some damage to parts of the "retaining wall" on the stretch.
In statement issued on Wednesday, the Authority assured the public that repair works would begin "shortly" on the underpass, near Tantra Hill, in Accra.
The release followed a viral video posted by a group known as Buzstopboys, showing the damage caused to sections of the reinforcement walls of the road. "An earlier assessment undertaken by our team of engineers revealed spalling over a localised area of the retaining wall.
This situation has exposed the rebars, leading to theft by unscrupulous individuals," it said. "We wish to assure the public that the underpass remains structurally sound and safe for all users.
