The Committee set up by the President, John Dramani Mahama, to enquire into the three petitions filed against the Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Torkorno, will commence today. The five-member committee chaired by Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, a Justice of the Supreme Court, was set up by the President in accordance with Article 146 (6) of the 1992 Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State, following a determination of a prima facie case against the Chief Justice.A statement issued in Accra yesterday by the Spokesperson and Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said the committee would sit three times in a week.It said the committee would present their recommendations to the President upon completion of its work.It is recalled that three people whose identities have not officially been disclosed petitioned the President for the removal of the Chief Justice for what they described as alleged financial misconduct, stated misbehaviour and abuse of power. BY TIMES REPORTER
