The Ashanti South Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man for possessing 207 rounds of assorted ammunition along with other suspicious items.

The suspect, identified as Yussif Mohammed, was reportedly carrying a backpack containing the ammunition at the time of his arrest.

He was apprehended near the Asankare Police Barrier with the assistance of some informants.' Addressing a press conference on Monday, May 12, 2025, the Deputy Regional Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Cephas Arthur, stated, "On-the-spot investigation revealed that the suspect was on board an Accra-bound passenger bus coming from the Kumasi direction when the luggage - a backpack - fell from the bus.

Police officers on duty nearby were alerted and subsequently apprehended the 25-year-old man who claimed ownership of the backpack." Items recovered from the suspect included: Two empty CZ magazines One empty G3 magazine Two G3 magazines loaded with 8 rounds of ammunition each One round of BB ammunition Thirty-five (35) rounds of CZ ammunition Forty-two (42) rounds of AK-47 ammunition Sixteen (16) rounds of red-tipped G3 ammunition In addition, a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp was found, along with a bulletproof vest, two black jackets, one green jacket, a crash helmet, and two military uniforms.
