The Chief Executive Officer of the World Brainest National Abacus Competition, Hilda Karroum, has urged the government to consider integrating abacus training into the curriculum of public schools.
Speaking at this year's National Abacus Competition held at the Achimota PTA Secretariat in Accra on July 12, 2025, Karroum argued that exposing children to abacus-based learning could strengthen their numeracy skills by helping them perform calculations faster and more accurately.
She noted that while some private schools have already introduced the tool into their teaching methods, many public schools lack access to similar programs due to resource constraints.
Karroum stated that including public schools in such initiatives would ensure broader participation and help bridge the gap between private and public education in mathematics instruction. "The future of the country depends on the development of our children's reasoning skills," she said, calling for collaboration between the government and organisations like World Brainest.
