Wisconsin International University College, Ghana, on Friday, inaugurated a High Definition (HD) Virtual Anatomy table and laboratory at its School of Nursing and Midwifery campus in Accra to enhance teaching and learning. The HD virtual table and laboratory is an interactive 3D system that uses real human body data reconstruction to simulate actual anatomical procedures such as simple observations and dissections. It also combines the traditional approach to anatomy education with technologies to deliver a more comprehensive, virtual, and hands-on learning for students.Anatomy, as a branch of science, is the study of the body and how its parts are arranged. The Minister of Health, Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, who inaugurated the facility, in his remark, said that it was a leap into the future of health education in the country. He stated that it represented a paradigm shift in howeducational institutions in the country trained the next generation of nurses, midwives, and health professionals.Mr Akandoh, therefore, urged both public and private health institutions to embrace innovation, invest in technology, and prepare students not just for today's realities but for the future of medicine, nursing, and healthcare. The government through the Ministry of Health (MoH), Mr Akandoh said, remained fully committed to supporting innovations that align with the national goals of universal health coverage, high-qualityhuman resource development, and resilient healthcare systems. The Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Professor Angela Kwartemaa Acheampong, said that before the inauguration of the HD virtual table and laboratory, the university used rubber models for human anatomy education. However, she said that the inauguration of the facility would provide students with a better and deeper understanding of human anatomy as compared to the use of the rubber models. The founder and Chancellor of the university, Dr Paul Kofi Fynn, in his remarks, said that the university prioritised the provision of quality education, hence its investment in human resources and technology. He also said that the university had signed agreements with universities in Colombia and Tanzania to train their students in nursing. The Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST, Professor (Mrs) Rita Alosua Dickson, on behalf of partner universities of Wisconsin, pledged their support to the university in the provision of quality education.
