The Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for individuals who burnt tyres during a violent protest in Bole, following widespread opposition to the nomination of Abdulai Mahamud as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).

The incident, which occurred on Friday, May 9, 2025, in the Bole District of the Savannah Region, saw dozens of angry youth take to the streets to express their disapproval.

The protest, staged in the hometown of  President John Dramani Mahama, was marked by loud chants, placards, and the setting of tyres ablaze, prompting authorities to postpone the MCE confirmation process.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Friday, May 9, the Savannah Regional Minister, Salisu Be-Awuribe, condemned the actions of the protestors and described the demonstration as illegal due to the lack of official notice under Ghana's Public Order Act.
