United States-born cardinal, Robert Francis Cardinal Prevost, was elected the leader of the Catholic Church - the Pope - on Thursday, 8 May 2025.

A document shared by Vatican News shows the official acceptance of Cardinal Prevost after he received the required majority of the 133 cardinals who took part in the conclave to elect him.

The document, which according to the media house, was issued in Latin by the Master of Pontifical Liturgical Celebrations, Monsignor Diego Giovanni Ravelli, confirms Cardinal Prevost's canonical acceptance to become the Supreme Pontiff.

It also indicates the papal name he chose; "Leonem XIV". "Here is the official record confirming that Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost accepted the election canonically, making him Supreme Pontiff, and the name he has chosen. "The document was drawn up by the Master of Pontifical Liturgical Celebrations, Monsignor Diego Giovanni Ravelli, acting as notary.
