Legal Counsel for the Minority Caucus and Member of Parliament for Suame, John Darko, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to pay attention to moderate voices within his party regarding the ongoing petition to remove Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo.

Speaking on The Point of View on Channel One TV on Monday, May 5, the opposition lawmaker said the President's response to the petition should reflect restraint and fairness, cautioning against political pressure from hardliners. "I'm hopeful that the President will listen to the moderates in his party," Darko stated.

The Minority has raised concerns over the petition, describing it as a threat to judicial independence.

Darko added that the five-member committee currently reviewing the petition must assess it strictly on merit. "If the five-member committee looks at the petition fairly, there is no reason that she should go," he argued.
