The Movement for Change has accused the largest opposition party, the NPP, of hijacking the planned protest over Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo's suspension for political gain rather than a genuine defence of the rule of law.
His comments come ahead of a planned demonstration led by members of the NPP and other opposition and allied groups, who have criticised the suspension of the Chief Justice as unconstitutional.
Speaking on the matter on Channel One TV's The Big Issue on Saturday, May 3, private legal practitioner and spokesperson for the Movement for Change, Andrew Appiah Danquah, questioned the sincerity behind the NPP's planned protest, stating that the party's actions are driven by political interests rather than a principled stance on legal accountability. "Personally I don't have any qualms with the NPP deciding to go and demonstrate except that contrary to what they are telling us, their demonstration is not because they believe in the rule of law. "It is not because they are fighting for the rule of law.
They are doing politics," he stated.
