The Public Utility Workers Union (PUWU) has welcomed President John Dramani Mahama's assurance that his administration will not privatise the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
The assurance was made by the President during the May Day celebrations on Thursday, April 1, 2025, at the Black Star Square.
Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Friday, April 2, PUWU General Secretary, Timothy Nyame expressed appreciation to the President for the commitment to keep ECG under public control.
He argued that ECG has the required technical capacity and human resources to operate effectively without needing privatisation, stressing that the company's main challenge lies in leadership. "They should appoint competent leaders who can be able to crack the whip so that the sector will remain under the government.
