As part of efforts to boost Ghana's creative arts industry and promote local fashion, President John Dramani Mahama has announced that he will take to the runway during the upcoming Ghana Fashion Week in July 2025. The announcement came during the national launch of the Black Star Experience, a flagship initiative of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) aimed at repositioning Ghana's creative sector.
The event took place on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at the Freedom and Justice Monument in Accra and was attended by leading industry stakeholders, party figures, and Mahama's children, Farida and Shahid.Addressing the audience, President Mahama underscored his deep appreciation for Ghanaian-made fashion, stating that much of his public wardrobe, from kaftans to suits, is designed and sewn locally. "If you notice, I wear clothes made in Ghana.
I have political suits all sewn by Ghanaian designers.
Even if you see me wearing a suit, it is made in Ghana," he said.
