The Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo Markin has alleged that President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have begun an agenda to get a third term in office.
Alexander Afenyo Markin noted in an interview on May 1, 2025, that the recent nomination of the seven Justices to the Supreme Court is a clear indication that John Mahama is setting the stage for another term in office after 2028. "It is obvious that the bold attempts by the president to nominate out of the blue, seven judges, to the Supreme Court is the first major attempt at all that they have rehearsed; a third term agenda. "All that the NDC is doing is through the advice of the hawks of NDC to set a third term agenda for its leadership," he stated.
His allegation comes after President Mahama on April 30, nominated seven Justices of the Court of Appeal for elevation to the Supreme Court of Ghana.
The nomination, in line with Article 144(2) of the 1992 Constitution, is expected to strengthen the apex court with experienced judicial minds amid increasing constitutional and governance challenges.
