Ken Ashigbey says Ghana's chances of overcoming illegal mining will fade if President Mahama does not act decisively within the initial two years of his presidency, Speaking in an interview on Citi Eyewitness News, Dr.

Ken Ashigbey stated: "The window to fight galamsey is closing fast.

If we don't deal with it in the first two years, and the NDC starts clamouring for his [President's] seat because the next election is going to come, it will be a lost battle." He called on professional bodies to support the media in holding government accountable in the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey. "We need to call on all professional bodies to join the media, to ensure that we put the necessary pressure, commending the government where it is right and where they are falling short, we point out to them," he said.
