The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) branch of the Tertiary Education Workers Union of Ghana (TEWU-GH) has announced an indefinite strike beginning Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

The industrial action stems from what the union describes as unfair treatment by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) in the composition of the university's newly inaugurated Governing Council.

At the official inauguration of the council on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, Akyamfoɔ Asafo Boakye Agyemang-Bonsu was introduced as the new Chairman.

However, controversy erupted when TEWU-TUC, a different union, was selected as the official representative of university workers on the council-much to the dissatisfaction of TEWU-GH.
