The Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has declared his firm opposition to the current contractual arrangement between the agency and Zoomlion Ghana Limited, describing it as "evil" and exploitative.
In a strongly worded statement shared on his official Facebook page today, Malik vowed never to renew the sanitation module contract in its existing form, citing gross injustice against the country's youth. "For 7 years, 9 months, the NPP renewed the Zoomlion contract in its current state, paying the Ghanaian youth GH¢250," Malik stated. "It is EVIL for the previous government to have committed to this, and I SHALL STOP IT." Malik's statement comes in the wake of renewed public outrage over the long-standing arrangement, which allocates GH¢850 monthly per sanitation worker-of which only GH¢250 is paid to the worker, while GH¢600 is retained by Zoomlion as management fees.
The YEA CEO, appointed under President John Dramani Mahama's new administration, has pledged that the status quo would not be allowed to continue under his leadership. "H.E John Dramani Mahama came to review, reset, and bring Ghana back on track.
This includes ensuring that every worker is paid satisfactorily for the work done," he noted.
