Asante Kotoko boss Abdul Karim Zito has revealed that his team's victory over Kaizer Chiefs in the 2025 Toyota Cup was the result of tactical intelligence rather than brute force.

Speaking after Kotoko's 3-2 penalty shootout win in Durban, Zito explained that he had no intention of matching the South African giants head-to-head due to their superior preparation and team cohesion. "When it comes to the win, I am satisfied with my players and tactically I am also satisfied," Zito said. "I know they've been through the process ahead of us.

With the new players, I wasn't going to get exactly what I wanted, but at least I assigned them responsibilities and expected them to deliver." The Porcupine Warriors, who absorbed pressure for long periods, showed defensive discipline and resilience throughout the match. "If you observed, we didn't attack too much but defensively we were ready," he added.

Zito's strategy ultimately paid off, with Kotoko winning the shootout thanks to goalkeeper Mohammed Camara's heroics.
