The Concerned Farmers Association of Ghana has applauded the Eastern Regional Police Command in Kyebi for the arrest of four suspects linked to the recent murder of a farmer in Asikesu, describing the development as a significant step toward justice and farmer protection.
In a press conference held on Tuesday, the Association's President, Nana Oboadie Boateng Bonsu, commended the police for their swift action, noting that the arrests reflect a strong commitment to upholding law and order in rural communities. "We extend our deepest appreciation to the Eastern Regional Police Commander and his team for their prompt and diligent response," he said. "This act reinforces our collective fight against injustice and violence faced by farmers." Despite the breakthrough, the Association is urging the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to go further by launching a comprehensive investigation to identify and apprehend the masterminds behind the crime. "The true architects of this heinous act must not go unpunished," Nana Oboadie added. "Justice must not stop with the foot soldiers; it must reach those who plotted and financed this atrocity." The Association reiterated its ongoing commitment to working with law enforcement agencies to protect the lives, livelihoods, and rights of farmers across the country.
It emphasised the need for a secure environment where farmers can work without fear of violence or intimidation.
The murder of the farmer in Asikesu has sparked outrage within the agricultural community, with calls for more robust protection measures and faster response to rural crimes. "We believe that, together, we can build a safer and more just society for farmers and for all Ghanaians," the Association concluded.
