The National Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has cast doubt on the authenticity of the alleged petition for the removal of the Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkonoo.
There have been reports suggesting that the contents of three petitions forwarded to President Mahama for the removal of the head of the Bench have become public.
The MP for Suame, John Darko, who also serves as the Legal Counsel for the Minority Caucus in Parliament, recently addressed the contents of the petition in a press conference.
He argued that the grounds-including allegations that the Chief Justice advised the President on judicial promotions and presided over a contentious case-were "flimsy and politically motivated." "We see the spurious petition for the removal of the Chief Justice as a serious setback to our democratic journey," he stated.
