The Okyeman Environmental Protection Brigade has launched a bold and decisive operation to clamp down on illegal mining activities along the Birim River and other nearby water bodies in the Eastern Region.

The mission, which officially began on April 17, 2025, seeks to restore the river's natural state, protect the environment, and promote sustainable mining practices across Okyeman.

The brigade is spearheaded by Barimah Dr Kwabena Awuah Parker I, Chief of Sokode-Juaso, and Barimah Pobi Asomaning III, Chief of Akyem Akwadum.

The team conducted a comprehensive tour of mining sites in communities such as Akyem Akropong, Akyem Asikam, Kyebi Pano, Kyebi Habitat, Kyebi Apapam, and Kyebi Adadentem.
