The Communication Team of Ebi Bright, the 2024 NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Tema Central, has pushed back against growing calls for an indigene to be appointed as Mayor of Tema, insisting that leadership should be grounded in competence and service, not ethnicity.
This comes in the wake of recent protests by some youth in Tema, supported by the Tema Traditional Council, urging President John Dramani Mahama to nominate a native of Tema as the next Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE).
The protesters argue that only an indigene can fully understand and address the challenges facing the area, while preserving its cultural identity.
But in a statement released by Team Ebi, the group described the calls as divisive and unproductive.
