Former Assistant Secretary at the Office of former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Ibrahim Adjei, has strongly criticized the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, over his recent remarks in Bawku, urging him to reconsider the statement for the sake of peace and public trust.
Speaking on Channel One TV's Breakfast Daily on Monday, April 14, Ibrahim Adjei argued that the IGP's promise to prioritize Bawku youth in police recruitment on the condition that they disarm risks sending the wrong message to the public and could severely undermine national peace-building efforts. "To make such a pronouncement seems to unravel all the peace efforts that we are doing.
What the IGP is doing is somehow incentivizing the youth by showing them that violence creates opportunities," he stated.
The IGP made the comments during a visit to Bawku on Friday, April 11, where he announced that a special recruitment team would be stationed in the conflict-prone area to enlist youth who lay down their arms as part of efforts to restore calm and order.
