Former Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Ade Coker, has urged the government to re-engage the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) to find ways to reduce the recently announced utility tariff hikes.
His call follows PURC's announcement of an upward adjustment in electricity and water tariffs, set to take effect on May 3, 2025.
The increases, part of the Commission's quarterly review for the first and second quarters of 2025, are intended to ensure revenue stability for utility providers while attempting to minimize the financial burden on consumers.
Per the new adjustments, electricity tariffs will rise by an average of 14.75%, while water tariffs will go up by 4.02%.
