Elvis Darko, Editor of The Newscenta newspaper and newscentaonline.com, has raised concerns about a recent promise made by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno to recruit youth from Bawku into the police service if they lay down their arms.
Speaking on Channel One TV's Breakfast Daily on Monday, April 14, Darko argued that the roots of the Bawku conflict are tribal and historical-not economic.
As such, job offers, including police recruitment, are unlikely to achieve lasting peace. "The IGP, in my opinion, could have handled the issue better.
From a communication standpoint, his clarification has only reinforced and worsened the problem.
