The Speaker of Parliament Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, has cut sod for the construction of an astroturf sports stadium for the Upper West Region's premier University, SDD-University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD -UBIDS). The "sportstainment" event, which took place on Monday, August 26, 2024, at the WAC-SRT Center of the University, saw in attendance several dignitaries, including former players of Ghana's National Team Black Stars led by Tanado Stephen Appiah, University management, and NDC party in the region. Giving an overview of the project, Chief Executive Officer of Wembley Sports Construction Company Limited, Robert Coleman, the company contracted to transfer the structural and architectural drawing of the project onto the ground, said the project is in three phases and will have a standard pitch size of 110 X 75m, with FIFA standard accepted grass, floodlights installed and a balustrade fence wall as its first phase. Phase two of the project will add up public washrooms, about 8-running tracks, changing rooms with washrooms, and turnout gear lockers. Phase three will complement the entire project with a car park, spectator stands, a 25-number VIP Stand, and a multi-purpose court, among others.
