The Ghana Police Service has launched an intensive manhunt to apprehend the suspects responsible for the fatal shooting of two police officers at Poyamirea, on the outskirts of Binduri in the Upper East Region.
In a statement signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs, and issued on April 13, 2025, the police confirmed the incident and assured the public that efforts are underway to bring the perpetrators to justice. "The Ghana Police Service is on a manhunt to identify and arrest robbers who shot two policemen today, 13th April 2025 at Poyamirea at the outskirts of Binduri in the Upper East Region," the statement read.
According to the police, initial investigations indicate that the officers were not in uniform and were using a private motorbike when they were attacked. "Preliminary investigation has established that the deceased officers were in mufti (plain clothes) and on their private motorbike traveling from Bongo to Binduri when they were attacked and their motorbike taken away," the release stated.
While the identities of the officers have not been disclosed, the Police Service noted that it is working to notify the families in line with traditional protocols. "The name of the officers have been withheld as efforts are underway to properly notify their families in line with custom and tradition." The Police Administration extended its sympathies to the bereaved families, colleagues of the fallen officers, and the broader law enforcement community. "The Police Administration wishes to express its deepest condolences to the bereaved family, the Commander as well as all officers and men in the region.
