The Upper East Regional Minister, Akambugri Donatus Atanga, has clarified that Bawku residents booed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno during his recent visit due to frustration with his remarks on the ongoing security situation, not his call for peace.

Speaking on JoyNews' Newsfile programme on Saturday, April 12, Atanga explained that the youth were particularly upset with the IGP's offer of priority police recruitment in exchange for laying down arms.

He noted that the residents had gathered to demand an end to the conflict, not to seek special recruitment opportunities. "The people were not hooting at the IGP because he asked them to give peace a chance, but they were not happy when he promised them that they'll be given priority recruitment into the police because they were asking for employment.

They were not happy about how the security agencies have handled the situation at Bawku, and that is why they made that noise," he explained.
