Deputy Director of A Rocha Ghana, Daryl Bosu, has alleged that the government is deliberately failing to tackle the illegal mining menace, commonly known as galamsey, suggesting possible complicity in the matter.

Speaking on Citi FM's Eyewitness News on Thursday, April 10, Bosu criticised the government's response to the crisis, describing it as ineffective and inadequate in light of the widespread environmental destruction caused by illegal mining operations.

He argued that the state has failed to fully deploy law enforcement, intelligence services, and policy mechanisms to address the issue. "Why is it that we've been talking about state of emergency, strategy that will nib the impunity of people mining in our forest reserves and our rivers in the bud?

Somebody will say one touch, but they have just deliberately refused," Bosu remarked.
