The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has condemned a recent attack on his private residence in Bawku, describing it as a disturbing escalation of tensions in the conflict-prone area.
In a statement issued while on an official assignment abroad, the legislator revealed that angry youth, reportedly enraged by recent violent clashes between police and civilians, vandalized and attempted to set his house ablaze. "Whilst attending an official assignment out of the country, I have learnt about fatal violent encounters between the police and the youth in Bawku and a subsequent vandalization and attempt to burn my private residence in Bawku in anger," he said.

Ayariga expressed understanding for the frustration of the youth regarding the slow pace of resolving the longstanding conflict in Bawku and Kusaug, but stressed that violence was not the answer. "I understand the anger and frustration of the youth about the pace of the resolution of the situation… and the misconduct of some misguided law enforcement officers," he said, while offering condolences to the bereaved and sympathy to the injured.
