Deputy Director of A Rocha Ghana, Daryl Bosu, has expressed deep concerns over the ongoing fight against illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, in Ghana.
Speaking on the current state of affairs in an interview on Citi FM's Eyewitness News on Thursday April 10, Bosu highlighted the persistent challenges faced by authorities in curbing the destructive activities of miners in forest reserves and rivers.
He described the situation as a "Tom and Jerry" game between miners and enforcement agencies, including the joint military-police task force and forest commission staff.
Despite efforts to tackle the issue, miners continue to divert rivers and exploit forest reserves, undermining conservation efforts and causing irreversible environmental damage.
