The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation is preparing to lay a specialised bill before Parliament aimed at curbing the growing threat of misinformation and disinformation in Ghana's digital space.
Announcing the move, the sector Minister, Sam Nartey George, said the proposed legislation will create a clear legal framework to guide digital engagement, promote responsible online communication, and protect national interests in the face of rapidly evolving technology.
According to the Minister, the increasing spread of false information-particularly across social media platforms-poses a serious risk to national security, public trust, and democratic governance.
He stressed, however, that the bill is not intended to infringe on freedom of speech or stifle critical voices.
