The Deputy Minister of the Interior, Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, has announced that the government is initiating a major overhaul of the police administration, particularly in areas that illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey, are prevalent.

Speaking in a recent interview on JoyNews, he alleged that some police officers who were deployed under operations like Operation Vanguard have also ventured into illegal mining. "We are going to transfer all the commanders that are in the mining areas.

And there are good reasons to do that.

What we realise is that we sent some of them on Operation Vanguard and some of them converted. "They've gotten to know the people.
