The government has ordered the immediate suspension of all post-retirement contract appointments for retired public service employees nationwide.

In a directive issued on April 2, 2025, and signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr.

Callistus Mahama, the administration announced a freeze on such appointments effective immediately. "Post-retirement contract appointments for retired public service staff have been suspended with immediate effect," the statement declared.

Additionally, the directive clarified that all pending or future requests for contract extensions for retired personnel will no longer be processed. "Consequently, all requests for such appointments will no longer be considered," it added.
