The Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Food, and Consumer Sciences of the University for Development Studies (UDS), Prof Terry Ansah has called on government to consider including Students of Colleges of Agricultural Education as beneficiaries of the trainee allowances.

According to him, the inclusion of the students in the trainee allowances scheme will encourage more qualified individuals to enroll in Colleges of Agriculture.

Prof Ansah said it was worrying that government pays teacher and nursing trainees allowances and yet, does not find the importance of including agricultural trainees, noting that it is an indication of disregard for quality manpower in Ghana's food value chain. "Unfortunately, those who are responsible for the production of food for you and I, we don't think they deserve motivation in the form of the allowances and I find that very dangerous for the country.

Neglecting agricultural students whiles paying nursing [and teacher trainees] allowances reveals a disregard for quality manpower in our food value chain" the Prof of Animal Sciences noted with concern.
