In a major boost to healthcare infrastructure at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), Deep Solar Ghana has donated and installed a 6-kW solar power system at the Rebecca Akufo-Addo Sunshine Hostel, a facility that serves as a temporary home for children undergoing cancer treatment at the hospital.

The newly installed system is expected to provide uninterrupted electricity to the hostel, reducing reliance on the national grid and easing the financial burden associated with energy costs.

Angelo Nartey, speaking on behalf of Deep Solar Ghana on April 3, 2025, emphasized the significance of reliable power in pediatric cancer care. "We recognize the critical role that reliable electricity plays in the recovery and well-being of these brave children. "This donation aligns with our mission to leverage renewable energy for social good, and we are proud to contribute to their comfort and care." The Sunshine Hostel offers a safe and nurturing environment for children and their caregivers during treatment.

Vida Appiah, a ward assistant at the hostel, shared her experience with power outages and the impact the solar installation will have. "This is just a big surprise because when they put off the lights, I have children, three months old, six months old, you can imagine when the whole place becomes dark and they start shouting," she said. "So just imagine being able to walk into a dark room, switch on the solar power, and there's light, everyone gets excited." She also appealed for further support, "The children here only move from the hospital to this place, it's their home away from home.
