Two Chinese have been arrested for their involvement in illegal mining activities along the Bonsa River in the Western Region, as part of the ongoing efforts to curb the environmental and economic damage caused by illicit mining.
The suspects, identified as Huan Ciongjian (38) and Ling Yong (56), were detained by the Western Central Regional Police Command for operating without the necessary permits, contributing to widespread environmental degradation in the area.
The two foreign nationals have been handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for further investigation and processing, as required by the country's legal framework for foreign nationals engaged in illegal activities.
In a related development, seven Ghanaians involved in illegal mining have been arraigned before the Special Court for Illegal Mining at Sekondi.
