Interior Minister Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has instructed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to reassign all regional, divisional, and district police commanders currently posted in mining areas.

The directive, which is effective immediately, aims to replace officers who have served in these locations for extended periods without effectively addressing illegal mining activities.

Muntaka outlined the decision as part of tougher measures to curb galamsey operations.

He indicated that commanders stationed in mining areas would be reassigned to non-mining areas, while newly appointed officers will take over their duties.
