The Speaker of Parliament has agreed in principle to a request for the release of two Members of Parliament (MPs) - Mustapha Yussif, MP for Yagaba Kubori, and Kwame Asare Obeng (A Plus), MP for Gomoa Central - for an interaction with security officials.
In a letter responding to the request, the Speaker emphasized the need to adhere to Articles 117 and 118 of the 1992 Constitution, which outline parliamentary privileges regarding the arrest or questioning of MPs.
He also cited existing protocols between Parliament and security agencies, as well as public interest considerations, in his decision.
As a result, the Speaker has directed that the two MPs present themselves for a preliminary interaction with security officials on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Sir Emmanuel Charles Quist Conference Room, Office of the Speaker.
