The newly enstooled chief of Wasa Damang in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality of the Western Region, Nana Enimere Kwaw II, is advocating for a policy change to combat the devastating effects of illegal mining.

The seasoned mining expert is urging the government to make it a policy for all small-scale mining operators, particularly those who are not well-versed in mining practices, to employ mining experts at their respective sites.

According to the chief, this move would help curtail or prevent the wanton destruction of land and also promote responsible mining practices.

Ghana is struggling to combat the devastating impact of unregulated mining activities on its forest reserves and water bodies.
