The Minority Caucus has urged the government to expedite the procurement of two Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) to enhance the Ghana Navy's capacity to tackle piracy and safeguard the nation's waters.
This call follows a suspected pirate attack on the Ghanaian-registered fishing vessel MENGXIN 1 on March 27, 2025.
According to a press release issued by the Ghana Armed Forces on March 29, seven armed individuals reportedly boarded the vessel in Ghanaian waters.
The pirates fired warning shots, assembled the crew on deck, and confiscated their mobile phones.
