There's a heavy police presence at Asesewa in the Upper Manya Krobo Constituency of the Eastern Region following a clash between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate (PC), Joseph Tetteh and the Member of Parliament for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bismark Tetteh Nyarko.   The clash ensued after the NDC supporters spotted the branding of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) equipment parked at the hotel of the NPP Parliamentary Candidate.

According to sources the supporters of the NDC who went to the hotel to take pictures of the branded equipment to allegedly expose them were prevented by supporters of the NPP resulting in a free-for-all fight which led to the injury of several others including the NPP constituency chairman.

The Asesewa police who were initially called to the scene called for reinforcement from the regional command which deployed the counter-terrorism unit to help calm tempers.   Supporters of the NPP however after the calm proceeded to parade the equipment through the principal street of Asesewa before taking it to the district assembly.

The Communication Bureau of the NPP in the constituency has condemned the alleged attack on their chairman are called for an immediate investigation into the clash.

Salifu Mohammed alias Foreigner, a youth leader of the NPP who is currently being pursued by the police for his alleged involvement in the clash denied the act in an interview with Channel One News.   Meanwhile the MP for the area Bismarck Tetteh Nyarko addressing a gathering at Asesewa Zongo during the tour of the party's general secretary this morning dispelled claims that the NPP Parliamentary Candidate personally bought the DRIP equipment.
