President John Mahama has reportedly directed the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to investigate the official travels of former President Akufo-Addo during his tenure.

Accra-based Asaase Radio reports that government officials insist it is part of broader efforts to ensure accountability in the management of state resources.

During Nana Akufo-Addo's tenure, opposition parties and civil society groups frequently questioned the high costs associated with his international trips.

In 2021, for instance, North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa accused the former president of spending millions of cedis on luxury chartered flights rather than using the state-owned presidential jet.
