The Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), , has stated that the government will not ban small-scale mining in the country.
Speaking to the media during a recent visit to Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, he emphasised the need for responsible mining. "The reason we won't ban small-scale mining is that those who want to do it legally and responsibly, we want to support you.
We are bringing the licensing regime to your doorstep at the district level, providing you with demarcated areas for mining, training, and equipment so that you can produce more gold responsibly without destroying the environment," he stated.
He also urged small-scale miners to sell their gold only to licensed Ghanaian buyers. "When you mine gold, do not sell it to an Indian, a Chinese, a Burkinabe, or an unlicensed Ghanaian.
