The People's National Party (PNP) has accused President John Dramani Mahama of abandoning his commitment to women's empowerment, following reports that he is considering the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo.

In a statement signed by PNP Chairperson Janet Nabla, the party expressed disappointment, arguing that Mahama's focus on ousting key officials-rather than fulfilling his campaign promises-undermines his credibility. "His pledge to implement the Affirmative Action Law and ensure 30% representation of women in his government has been abandoned.

Instead of delivering on his promise, he is actively seeking ways to remove those who were there before his tenure," the statement read.

The controversy follows three petitions submitted to Mahama, urging him to remove Justice Torkonoo from office.
