The Member of Parliament for Wa West, Peter Lanchene Toobu, has called for legislative reforms to establish a fixed tenure for heads of security agencies, particularly the Inspector-General of Police (IGP).
According to him, securing the tenure of security chiefs will prevent undue political interference and promote stability within the security services.
His remarks follow an injunction filed by IMANI Africa and security expert Professor Kwesi Aning, seeking to block President John Dramani Mahama from dismissing Dr George Akuffo Dampare as IGP.
Despite the legal challenge, the Jubilee House has confirmed Dampare's removal as part of broader security sector reforms under the Mahama administration.
