Famed Ghanaian Dancehall musician Shatta Wale has released a new song titled Betting Tax, addressing the ongoing debate over whether the Nana Akufo-Addo-led administration ever implemented the controversial levy. The song comes after former Finance Minister Mohammed Amin Adam stated that Ghanaians should not celebrate the National Democratic Congress (NDC)'s decision to scrap the tax, as it was never enforced.
According to him, while the previous government introduced the levy, it was never fully implemented.Speaking at a Minority-led press conference on March 11, 2025, Dr.
Amin Adam criticized the claim, calling it misleading. "Betting tax that they said they have abolished, we never collected betting tax.
So to come and tell Ghanaians that you have abolished something that we never implemented, is to deceive the people of Ghana," he stated.
