South African billionaire Dr Patrice Motsepe has successfully defended his presidency of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), cruising to an uncontested re-election at the 14th CAF Extraordinary General Assembly on Wednesday 12 March, 2025 in Cairo, Egypt.

Motsepe, who had initially kept his cards close to his chest regarding a potential re-election bid, finally threw his hat into the ring in October 2024, following persistent urgings from CAF member association presidents and key football stakeholders.

As Africa's ninth wealthiest individual, Motsepe was the sole contender for the top job, effectively sealing his second term as the helmsman of African football.

Since taking the reins as CAF's first English-speaking president in 2021, Motsepe has masterminded a stunning financial turnaround for the continental football governing body.
