Olympic 100m bronze medalist Fred Kerley blazed to victory in a time of 9.87s at the Silesia Diamond League meet on Sunday, August 25, 2024. The US international was amongst the favourites tipped to win the meet, alongside Jamaican and Olympic silver medalist Kishane Thompson. However, the Jamaican failed to start the race, leaving Kerley to slug it out with Kenya's Ferdinand Omanyala, 2020 Olympic gold medalist Marcel Jacobs and Ackeem Blake. Kerley's sizzling 9.87s finish saw him equal the Silesia Diamond League meet time over the distance, with Omanyala (9.88s) coming 2nd and Ackeem Blake (9.89s) good enough for third. 2020 Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs came fourth after a 9.93s finish. Kerley's victory comes three days after finishing 3rd in the Lausanne 200m Diamond League meet, with the US sprinter now shifting his focus to the Rome Wanda Diamond League on August 30, 2024. "Trash race but on to Rome", he wrote on X.
