The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has expressed disappointment with the number of women appointed to the Cabinet by President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking at a ceremony to celebrate International Women's Day in Parliament, the Speaker noted that two women out of the 19 Ministers of State in the Cabinet fall short of the 30% requirement outlined in the Affirmative Action Gender Equality Act.
He stated that any appointments below the statutory benchmark percentage would not be accepted. "We have tarried long enough in passing the bill.
Let us not apply the same wishy-washy towards its implementation.
