The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has reaffirmed the government's commitment to tackle the illegal mining menace in the country, popularly known as galamsey.
In a post on his X page on Monday, March 10, 2025, he issued a stern warning to all persons involved in illegal mining, popularly referred to as galamsey. "We will not relent, nor will we retreat, until every inch of our precious forest reserve is safeguarded," he stated.
The minister further announced that a joint anti-galamsey taskforce had embarked on an operation targeting illegal mining activities in forest reserves. "In collaboration with the Ministry of Defence, we executed a joint operation today between the Rapid Response Unit of the Forestry Commission and our dedicated military personnel, which drove out illegal miners from the Tano Anwia Forest Reserve in the Enchi Forest District of the Western North Region. "The operation resulted in the seizure of excavators and bulldozers.
Let this operation serve as a clear message to those who dare to challenge the resolve of our government, "he noted.
