Nice were puzzled after their unbeaten home streak was curtailed by Lyon, courtesy goals from substitutes Rayan Cherki and Ernest Nuamah, to the amusement of suspended Lyon manager Paulo Fonseca.
Prior to kick off, Nice had picked up 27 points from a possible 36 and were the third best performing home side in the league behind Monaco and Paris St Germain (PSG).
Expected to be a good day at the office, following four victories on the bounce, Nice struggled to assert themselves in the first half in front of their vociferous fans at the Allianz Riviera.
Lyon, without their manager Paulo Fonseca, following his nine-month ban after verbal and physical confrontation with referee Benoit Millot in their last league game against Brest, stuck to their plans.
